I’ve tried ayahuasca, acid, ketamine, mushrooms, drum circles, yoga, meditation, inner child work, plant based diet, detoxes, and everything else you can imagine (at least twice) I’ve tried a 12-step program (ACA). I accidentally joined a “leadership” cult-like MLM (whatup ALA). I’ve over exercised, numbed w substances, numbed with relationships, dissociated and isolated.

NOTHING has moved the needle like working on my nervous system the last few months.

Nervous system work is NOT just taking deep breaths to calm down. It’s NOT just cold plunge selfies and frequent trips to the red light infrared saunas.

I’m eternally grateful to Irene Lyon. I’ve been referring to this part of my life as LIFE 2.0 and everyone around me and I feel it. Some of the work she teaches is so basic that it’s… boring. If you, like me, have ‘tried everything’: I encourage you to try one more thang, boo. Look at your nervous system. + your healed nervous system will make it more likely any other modality will be more effective.

“Today, I’m pain-free. My baseline used to be a 5 out of 10. Now, it’s zero.”

After years of chronic pain, fibromyalgia, hypermobility, POTS, and medical mystery diagnoses, Elisabeth found herself burned out, bedridden, and feeling hopeless. No doctor could explain why she was in so much pain—until she discovered the missing link: her nervous system.

“I didn’t want to live like that anymore,” she says. “So I committed.”

I found you after experiencing severe and acute swings between hysterical crying and the freeze response. I only knew “depression” and “anxiety” as terms but self described my experience as “something so big and wrong that nothing else matters until that’s resolved.”

Started googling that, and I discovered your YT channel and it was this incredible amazement and relief to hear you explain what was happening to me and give words/concept to understand how my body worked. That really convinced me, I guess you could say, because what you said matched my felt sense before I even knew how to really FEEL IT. My own body confirmed the truth of what you were teaching.

 
I devoured your YT videos and did the 21 day program after that. Funny note, I also remember feeling affronted by some of your directness 😆 but that actually confirmed to me that I was in the right place to be challenged and grow in my capacity. What you teach I believe is foundational knowledge, a missing piece that I can’t believe I never even heard of until my mid-20s (and I know that’s still young!)

Oh my goodness I am so glad l found you. I literally stumbled across you on fb! I’m not sure why you stood out but something told me you were safe. I didn’t really know what to expect other than I wanted to connect with my body. So I explored your offerings.

I trust that I know a safe healer when I come across them. For me that’s a person who is doing their own work and allows me to do mine, guiding when I ask for guidance. There was something in your honesty about your own work. Not always having the answers, your journey to put all you learned together. How you learned from doing the work yourself. Not simply theory read and regurgitated. There was something about how simple it was, and simultaneously challenging. It doesn’t need to be complex, it’s already within.

I started with your free resources, then I think in 2017 I signed up for the 21 day program sensing a need for some structure to my learning. I did that a few times round.

This work has been a game changer for me. These days, well it’s changed. I swim, I do barre, I balance on Swiss balls 😂 & I created a space where others could connect to each other and themselves in cold Scottish water, all thanks to connection with myself at a deeper level.

I started in 2019 with this powerful work first with the 3 part video series and then added 21 day which took me 6 months to complete with lots of repeats. I later added SBSM in 2022 and have gone thru it 4 times at varied levels but I have completed it fully.

It’s become a lifestyle and I’ve integrated it into my teaching. I’m a Therapeutic Movement coach which blends my background as an exercise physiologist, a physical therapist, a yoga instructor, and a myofascial release practitioner and now I’ve added education on nervous system awareness/health.

I had been to see counselors, healers and all sorts of helpers for over 30 years and I hadn’t gotten to where I am now after practicing this for 3 years. I’ve had PTSD with several personality disorders that have haunted me all my adult life that went undiagnosed and unseen.

This [21-Day Tuneup] process has enabled me to do some deep shadow work with healing and resolution rather than re-traumatizing me or covering it deeper. I wish every child could learn these skills in kindergarten… but it’s never too late as I can attest. All the ‘spiritual’ stuff l used to do can’t hold a candle to where I am now.

I did 21 day tune up after a suicidal clinical depression and my life is changing!!!

I just published a book with my healing journey (so far) in Spanish (my language) it’s been a roller coaster facing both light and shadows… that came out of than little box (pandoras box?)

Absolutely brilliant course. I’ve been working in the holistic healing and wellbeing world for 40 years both as a practitioner and as a professional. Our knowledge evolves individually and collectively so there’s always more to learn, to discover and to play with. I have learned so much from Irene—relevant to my own lifelong healing of childhood trauma and of living with a PTSD diagnosis, which I’ve recently upgraded for myself to CPTSS (syndrome is a better descriptor than disorder—even though the experience is one of profound dis-ordering and that’s a GOOD thing!).

I was able to come out of survival mode mostly and am continuing to work on staying out of it. My digestive system has improved quite a bit and my energy and motivation is as well.

Also I have been able to deal with pain like I have never before as well, in fact, I just broke my foot 2 days ago. I had the impulse about an hour before to do the potent posture exercise and then went for a walk and fell in a post hole! This exercise helped keep me balanced and I did not twist my foot and fell forward in a crouch so the foot only broke from impact. I sat on the ground orienting and just being with the pain and the earth until the shock wore off. I get hurt pretty often and usually run away and suppress it but I never knew I was storing all that trauma causing my healing to be suppressed as well.

It has been a HEALING journey to start by orienting and my foot has rapidly improved in the 2 days with minimal pain. Follow those impulses, orient, and allow your body the time it needs to heal is the best advice I have ever received.

I really enjoyed doing the 21 Day course. It took me about 6 weeks, but of course the work is ongoing.

The most important change I noticed is that I sleep so much better than before.

 
I had always dreamt of being able to get up early in the morning. Now I wake up without alarm at 7:00 and feel refreshed. Before, I often slept till 9 or 10:00 and still was tired. I also don’t wake often during the night, as I used to before.

The second amazing change is that with all the exercises and explorations the “burning feet syndrome”, from which I have been suffering for the last 7 years, is getting better. That means if I orient, the hot toes immediately get a little cooler. And during the Feldenkrais lessons I could feel that tiny contractions in the toes loosened.

I have now enrolled in SBSM, because I really want to do this work. I feel so honoured to be able to learn about the nervous system.

It is really a huge breakthrough for me after 50 years of illness and suffering!

Right now I’m having a cold so my system is a bit activated. It is quite a challenge also to titrate when you can feel that this course is going so deep — and makes so much sense of my experiences in childhood, adolescence and adulthood.

For the first time I feel genuine hope that I can work through 6 decades of stored up survival stress, shutdown/collapse and slowly begin to live the life I was always intended to live. It is so exciting!

I remember initially being very disappointed with the 21 Day Tuneup in relation to all the free resources, but now I have actually realised how beneficial and structured it is. I had an injury last May that totally changed my life and perspective to many things. After the injury I became ten times dysregulated. Before injury I built incredible capacity in my nervous system as I was stuck in functional freeze for decades. The challenge for me after the injury is feeling safe again in my environment and body, I was experiencing consistant feeling of danger going all through my body. Nothing was calming me down.

My therapist suggested to give the system time and ride these huge waves of anger, regret, shame, blame, fear. Try to be curious and LISTEN to what my body needs.

Resourcing to Irene Lyon 21 Days and all of her Youtube channel helped me a lot to process and be with my sympathetic nervous system. Listening to the sensory exercises at bedtime was soothing to me.

 
I noticed that even after gaining some capacity, an accident might happen and new layers of surprises may come up to the surface. I am grateful for that injury for opening my eyes to more self worth and empathy. Consistency, awareness and the will are the keys.

I have gained so much new and useful information. My body is changing rapidly after 5 and a half years of PTSD severe pain all over body, unable to breathe properly, stiff person syndrome, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia symptoms. Digestive and gastrointestinal pain and discomfort on a daily basis.

I am now beginning to smile and feel like I know my body so much better. I have a long way to go but I can now read this intelligence, this silent language my body speaks. It is exciting to see what this organism is made of and can do. Fascinating!

I recommend all humans do this course regardless. This is an essential, critical non-negotiable living skill FOR LIFE.

I took the 21 Day Nervous System last year before going to Peru to do Ayahuasca ceremonies. The course helped me get there.

I had so much stress I couldn’t sleep at all many nights prior to travelling there including the night before traveling. The course helped me make it to Peru and helped me through the intense experience of the ceremonies. I took the Smart Body Smart Mind course in the Spring and incorporated the exercises into my routine. I also attended the Up and Down workshop in Vancouver which I loved. I instantly felt the nurturing loving environment which led me to feeling tears many times but it got to the point that it was too much for me.

I’m now in my 2nd round of SBSM. I have CPTSD from early childhood trauma and inter generational trauma as an Indigenous woman from Canada. My anxiety in groups was so intense I felt like I had a steel ball with spikes in my stomach and my stomach bloated from improper breathing.

I’ve noticed a dramatic almost miraculous change in the last while where I attended a large function and was 80% better — more present.

 
Further, I am now facilitating a Wellbriety program (12 Step program using Indigenous teachings) for women.

I’m so grateful for Irene’s work. I started Irene’s work by watching the free videos and got so hooked. Irene has a wonderful program. I attribute my progress to Irene’s work, counselling and ceremonies.

This is such a different angle than what I have been used to over the last 40 years of on and off therapy and growth courses. I felt the shifts from the first exercise. I am still busy, as I take a day or two for some of the information to settle.

In the 21-day course, I made more progress than seeing a therapist for a year.

 
The changes are sometimes immediately noticeable, sometimes, I will notice, ‘Oh, I did that differently,’ and it feels good, and it stays. No need to practice how to change a reaction to a new action, it happens. Very satisfying results.

I have been through hell in the past year, dealing with panic attacks, burnout, depression, childhood trauma that surfaced really badly, as well as a completely dysregulated nervous system.

Doing this tune-up was so absolutely worth it! I took my time with it (about 2 months), and the effect is amazing! Today I know the urgent feeling of needing to have it done immediately was a signal of a dysregulated nervous system.

I came across your work when I was searching for more information about the nervous system and felt a strong calling to learn more about the vagus nerve and be able to serve my clients on a deeper level. I could never have imagined that this would give me so many answers, answers I somehow knew were out there when other “gurus” were speaking about what they knew was the truth, and I didn’t agree…(what you call spiritual bypassing and was so spot on when I heard you explain that.)

I’m a nurse, trained as a coach and run my own business and thought I had a pretty good idea of the nervous system and stress-related illness (my heart topic), but I realize it only scratched the surface.

These are my wins so far:

  1. I now know that the cause of my IBD (ulcerative colitis) and my burnout come from stored survival stress and that l’ve been living in a functional freeze state all my life (due to terrible events and trauma).
  2. The ADHD diagnosis I got after the burnout, which felt like a relief at the point, I now know comes from my childhood, alcoholic father (now sober) and yelling mother.
  3. I’m a more present parent for my kids, and my first priority right now is to create a more safe foundation for my daughters (10 yo and 12 yo). In their early years, when I was sick and much in the hospital, and then, a few years later burned out, I haven’t been the mother they needed. So every moment I have left with them under the same roof, I will do my best to help them heal from their traumas and build capacity for a greater future. My soon to be 4 year old grew up with me as a more conscious parent, but of course, helping him become a safe young man and supporting him in capacity building is also important for me.
  4. I even went to therapy once to get help to be a better mother and not judge myself for being a bad mother for being so ill. At that point I hated myself for yelling too much at my daughters and sounding exactly like my own mother, and I wanted help with that. The therapist said that I’m doing everything right and that I should continue yelling, that it will help them build resilience. I didn’t believe her, thank God.
  5. My home. I now understand that there’s nothing wrong with me for wanting to have things organized and tidy. And that I want to have a home that is harmonious and looks beautiful.
  6. My overall health. I move my body the way I feel and I eat what I want. I’ve tried so many diets (all the tips from the time when I was very ill with ulcerative colitis) and so many exercises. When I finally stopped stressing about all this, I now feel so much healthier.
  7. Another thing. I can enjoy wine and champagne much more these days. Before I was always afraid I would enjoy it too much so I would become an alcoholic like my father. I think that mindset even made me drink more and more irresponsibly before. Now, I can pour a glass of wine just because I want to – not because it’s been a rough day or week or because I deserve it.
  8. The tinnitus I’ve had come and go for a few years is now gone. I started to acknowledge it, listen to it, and not judge it…and now I haven’t heard the crackling sound for months 🙂

I kind of hit the ground running because it was exactly what I was looking for at the time. I’d done a ton of therapy and had had gains, for sure, but kept sort of hitting up against a brick wall when it came to how do I implement changes.

I did the three-part healing series and then just went straight into the 21-day Tune-Up. I couldn’t get enough — I was insatiable.

During that 21-day Tune-Up, the biggest shift that I found — and it sounds kind of like not a big deal — but my presence, especially with my kids, was night and day.

I’d heard a lot about being present… but until I did that first orienting exercise, I was like — oh, this is what presence is. This was different. It was much more presence in a conscious way rather than sort of checking out or bypassing… that was the first time I really felt that I dropped into a feeling and an experience of presence.

What led into the nervous system work was that I had been very anxious. I was a good, functional freezer. And that was not a problem until I became a parent. And when I became a mother, I lost all my structure. So I was really at the bottom. And I had never been there before. I started feeling myself just tighten up into this knot of rage and catharsis. I had to go out in the yard and just scream. I was just like, “oh my God, the neighbors!—but I don’t care, I have to.” It was a really tough time for me.

I started googling. I was like, “God, nervous system—I’m messed up. I need something. I do not have the tools for this. I have none of the tools I need.” So I started googling, and I found you. I found your site, and I signed up for the 21-Day Nervous System Tune-up.

Orienting was mind-blowing to me. So I took that grain of gold from orienting and I brought it into everything. I tried to bring it into everything. I practiced many times a day. It was my lifeline.

 

And as far as the last five years of this practice—it has revolutionized the experience of who I am and what my life is. And those are big words, but it’s actually really true.

This nervous system work was the missing piece for me after years of focusing on inner work. I am seeing success in the areas I was hoping for but also: gaining more than anticipated in ways I never expected.

As a late diagnosed ADHD adult: my ADHD symptoms have decreased overall by approximately 80%. No more meds ~ I AM my own medicine.

The 21 Day course was a good basis for me to start with for a trauma-based therapy. I knew for some years (since I first heard about the polyvagal theory) that it would be THE THING for me, but somehow couldn’t make the connection. Now I know what it’s all about and what’s important to me in this therapy.

Of course, like many others here, I have a long history and am now full of hope that things will really change. Some small “enlightenments” already happened during the course. I’ve studied or experienced what feels like virtually every therapy, energy healing modality and body work available and I’m shocked that I’m only now learning this particular piece of work. Overall, I am feeling much more positive and improved ability to deal with stress has helped me sleep better after the 21 Day course. Because of this, the internal tremor I experience at night is less intense. I have also noticed I am carrying less tension in my body. I have CFS (chronic fatigue syndrome) and initially a lot of anxiety came up. I also felt exhausted but once I adjusted my pace and slowed right down, this eased and I experienced subtle shifts. I’m now working through the course a second time and incorporating the practices into my daily routine. Recently, my energy levels have improved very slightly, which is fantastic. When I started the course, my body felt like a lead weight but with all this buzzing energy trapped inside. This has reduced in intensity. I have high hopes that I will improve more if I continue to put into practice what I have learned.

My advice for others taking or thinking about taking this course is to persevere! Go with the flow, take one day at a time and you will start to notice subtle shifts.

I’ve had my first MAJOR release from freeze! I’ve been doing the exercises since January, and I woke up from a really good sleep this morning and my body mounted a fight/flight response with no provocation from ‘me’ or my thoughts. A chunk of nameless, stored historical stuff has appeared: heightened sensation, a nervousness, arousal and stimulation that feels half good and half bad. I’m just observing it ‘do’ itself.

The old me would have shut this down and labelled it as ‘oh God! I’m losing my marbles again!’ I feel like I’ve arrived at a totally new place.

Keep doing the work folks! It pays off!

I have done the ’21 day tune up’, seen every Youtube video (yes, every single one) and taken advantage of every resource on your website. Thank you for helping me help myself!

I am now for the first time since fall 2014 pain free from fibromyalgia, symptoms of EDS, PMDS and menstrual cramps, plantar fasciitis, POTS and much more (Yes, I’ve been ”diagnosed”. I know now that all of these symptoms come from an unregulated NS).

This spring I took a walk with my husband around my own block and realised ”this is the first time I’ve been able to walk here pain free”.

About a month ago I took a walk in the forest and got an impulse to run up a hill (yes, I RAN for the first time in seven years). When I stopped and realised that it didn’t hurt and that I hadn’t dissociated I started to cry. I can’t even remember if I have ever cried from gratitude before.

My ”I’m-doing-this-for-the-first-time-pain-free”-list is getting so big since coming out of the freeze response that I’ve just about lost count. I’m even doing things without dissociating or feeling pain/ discomfort for the first time EVER in my life due to some degree of functional freeze/fawn response from early age/childhood.

All physical transformation aside, the mental shift has been indescribable! My capacity/swimming pool has increased so much that it is unrecognisable, both in my approach to my work life and in my personal life.

I began my healing journey September 2020 by reading ‘Waking the Tiger’. God bless Mr. Levine and his work, but that book gave me so much anxiety and left me with more questions than I started with. After some googling and some more googling I finally found your work and it was like someone turned the lights on. I know you’ve heard this before, but your work is so pedagogical I didn’t even have to use Google Translate. I’m 34 years old and from Sweden, English isn’t my first language, and here I’m learning about neuroplastic sequencing healing without a dictionary.

I just wanted to share a very short version of my healing journey story. I owe it all to you and I’m so grateful! I’m sharing your work to everyone I know, and to anybody that I think needs it. Thank you so much!

I have done lots of other therapies including yoga, but this material really gave me a new level of self awareness and body awareness. I now sleep better, have less back pain and headaches, understand how I hold stress in my body, and practice tools that gently release tension throughout my day. I just want to thank you so much for having created this affordable course for us. In my case, I come from a very traumatic childhood and lived with depression, anxiety, panic attacks, and anorexia for almost my whole life. I did not even know what those terms were until I turn 28 (I am 37 now). I went to therapy at the age of 34 and did 35 sessions. However, I could not get my life back after I was released, and that was a big disappointment for me because I just did not understand why. I felt fine on my last session and as soon as I had no sessions left, I felt even worse.

I don’t even remember how I found Irene Lyon, but since video one, I fully connected with her and understand every single word that she was saying. I signed up for her free videos, I took a lot of notes, and then I signed up for the 21 Day course. Many things got better. I got a job now. (After 2 years of being afraid to work).

I know that I have to work more on myself, her course helped me to start getting my life back together, especially with the job part. My anxiety has decreased at least 80% (to me that is a miracle). Depression is down at least 70%, and I am just paying attention to other things.

Irene’s 21 Day Nervous System Tune Up came to my attention as I was looking for ‘something’ to help with my anxiety and better my knowledge for my clients as I am a Massage Therapist, Aromatherapist and Reiki Master. Several times per year I get sick, injured or just exhausted. I am then forced to take time off, again and again, and tend to get back to work a little bit before I should. As a mind-body life coach I suspected my nervous system was somewhat unregulated. Not always, but more often than I’d like, I would get ‘triggered’ for seemingly no reason and would experience jitters and low-level anxiety that wouldn’t switch off.
